Eugene Levinson


Principal bass, New York Philarmonic, since 1985; soloist for Philharmonic premiere of Tubin's Bass Concerto (1996); bass obbligato for Mozart's aria for bass, double bass, and orchestra, Per questa bella mano, in a Philharmonic performance broadcast on PBS's Live from Lincoln Center (2004). Former principal bass, Minnesota Orchestra and Leningrad Principal Chamber Orchestra. Member, Leningrad Philarmonic, where he was soloist in Koussevitzky's Bass Concerto (1986). Author of School of Agility, a technical method published by Carl Fischer (2002). Winner, Distinguished Special Recognition in Orchestral Performance award from International Society of Bassists (2003). Solo recordings for Pro Arte, Melodiya, and Cala labels. Annual master classes throughout the world. Appearances, Sarasota, Eastern, and Carmel Valley, CA, music festivals. Faculty member, Aspen Music Festival, since 1979. Former faculty, Peabody Conservatory of Music.

  1. hey buddy, Eugene Levinson is no longer principal bass for the Ny phil. Levinson retired, and Timm Cobb (my teacher) will take his spot.
